Minding the Gap has thus far accumulated 28 award recognitions since its world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, where the film earned the Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking. Since its premiere, Minding the Gap has gone on to win top awards at Sheffield Doc/Fest, Full Frame, Sarasota, Ashland, Mountainfilm, Minneapolis St. Paul, Nashville, RiverRun, and Docs Against Gravity. Variety listed first-time director Bing Liu as one of '10 Documentarians to Watch in 2018.'
